Privacy Policy

your life is yours.

Mark is built privacy-first. This explains exactly what the app handles, where it lives, and what we never do.

Last updated · June 2, 2026

The short version: Mark is built privacy-first. Your journal, photos, moods, and history live on your device and in your own iCloud account. We don't run servers that store your content, we don't have accounts, we don't use analytics or ad trackers, and we never sell your data. We genuinely can't see what you write.

This Privacy Policy explains how the Mark app ("Mark," "the app," "we," "us") handles your information. It applies to the Mark iOS application.

01who we are

Mark is published by northOS. For any privacy question, contact us at support@northos.xyz.

02our approach: we hold as little as possible

Mark is designed so that your personal content stays with you. The app has no login and no account. It uses Apple's iCloud to sync your data privately across your own devices. We do not operate a database of your entries.

03what information the app handles, and where it lives

Everything you create in Mark is stored locally on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, synced through your private iCloud (Apple CloudKit) database — which only you can access. This includes:

  • Your items — the rituals and tasks you create (titles, categories, schedules, reminders).
  • Your journal / "marks" — completion entries, written notes, moods, and any photos you attach.
  • Optional location — only if you choose to attach a place to a moment (see §6).
  • Weather snapshots — if a moment records the weather (see §5).
  • Reminders — scheduled as local notifications on your device.

We, the developer, do not receive, store, or have access to any of this content.

04what we do NOT do

  • We do not run our own servers that store your journal or personal data.
  • We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. (If this ever changes, this policy will be updated first.)
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone.
  • We do not require an email/password or build a user profile on our systems.

05weather (Apple WeatherKit)

When a moment records weather, Mark requests it from Apple WeatherKit using the moment's approximate location and time. This is handled by Apple under Apple's terms and privacy practices. Weather data is stored with your entry in your own iCloud, not with us.

06location

Location is optional and user-initiated. If you choose to attach a place to a moment, Mark uses your device location once to drop a map pin and look up a place name (via Apple's services). Mark does not track your location in the background or build a location history. You can decline or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

07sharing ("life cards")

Mark lets you create a branded recap card (a day, week, or year) and share it yourself via the iOS share sheet (Messages, email, social, etc.). These cards are generated on your device. When you share one, you are sending it through the app or service you choose — Mark does not transmit it to us. Shared cards carry Mark branding and a link to the app.

08purchases (when available)

If you purchase a Mark subscription, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment information; we never see or store your card details. We may receive anonymized purchase status from Apple solely to unlock features.

09notifications

Reminders are delivered as local notifications scheduled on your device. They are not sent through our servers.

10data retention and deletion

Because your data lives on your device and in your iCloud, you control it:

  • Delete an individual entry inside the app at any time.
  • Delete the app to remove its local data from a device.
  • Remove all synced data via iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Mark.

There is no account on our side to delete, because we don't hold your data.

11children

Mark is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

12your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g., GDPR in Europe, CCPA in California, PIPEDA / Québec Law 25 in Canada), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Because your Mark data is stored in your own device and iCloud and not on our servers, you can already exercise these directly (see §10). For any question, contact support@northos.xyz.

13third parties

The only third party involved in the app's core function is Apple (iCloud/CloudKit, WeatherKit, Maps/geocoding, App Store purchases), governed by Apple's own privacy policy. We do not integrate advertising or analytics providers.

14changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app or on our site.
